Two different IT careers
Systems Analysts
What They Do
Systems analysts and software engineers oversee the development process for new software and hardware. In
the case of software engineers, the project could involve designing a new application program or other software.
Systems analysts, on the ohter hand, may design either new hardware systems or software products.
The design process is generally lengthy and complex. The following steps apply mostly to program design, but similar
steps would also be applicable to hardware or operating system desing, as well:
- Defining the problem
- Defining the program
- Flow charts prepration
- Documentation
- Evaluation process
Educational & Training:
Bechlor's degree in computer Science or related field.Prior experience is very important in this line of work.
Employers look for analysts who have both a strong programming background as well as familiarity with the type of computer systems used in the employers's organization.
Average Annual Salaries:
In 1992, full-time system analysts avareged $63000.
Future Outlook Through 2005:
Systems Analysts is expected to be one of the fastest growing fields through 2005. Opportunities should
be excellent for systems analysts who stay abreast of adavancements in their field.
Computer & Electrical Engineers
What they do
Computer engineers and electrical engineers design, build, test, and evaluate new computer chips, circuit boards, computer systems, and peripheral devices. The goal of computer engineering is to produce computing devices that run efficiently and economically.
There are different kind of specialization in Electrical engineering:
- Development engineering
- Desing engineering
- Production engineering
- Quality Assurance engineering
Education & Training:
Minimum: B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, with additional graduate course work (or a masters degree) necessary to keep up with advances in the field.
Average Annual Salaries:
$60000 in 1994
Future Outlook Through 2005:
Employment opportunities for electrical and electronics engineers are expected to be good through the year 2005, with demand keeping up with supply.
